The Counselling Centre of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has conducted a free health screening exercise to mark the climax of its annual emotional health awareness campaign.
The 11th edition of the Counselling and Emotional Health Awareness and Promotion Week (CEHAP) drew hundreds of students and staff to the event. CEHAP seeks to educate the university community on issues such as drug abuse, addictions, and relationships.
The event offered services including HIV and hepatitis B testing, breast and eye examinations, genotype and blood group testing, and nutrition consultations.

Mrs. Victoria Degraft-Adjei, Head of the KNUST Counselling Centre, said the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to prevention-based care and holistic well being.
“KNUST is not just a centre of academic excellence. We care about the emotional and physical health of our students and staff,” she said. “This programme is our way of taking mental health support beyond the counselling room.”
She encouraged both staff and students to take advantage of the services offered by the KNUST Counselling Centre at any time. She noted that the Centre is staffed by licensed professionals accredited by the Ghana Psychology Council and international bodies, providing a wide range of support services, including academic, family, and emergency counselling.
She also encouraged them to use the Centre’s mobile app, which allows users to conveniently book appointments for in person, audio, or video sessions.
“All our services are confidential. We want to be accessible whether in person, by audio, or by video to anyone in the KNUST community who needs support.”
She extended appreciation to all partner organisations that contributed to the success of the programme. Leading the list was Johnson & Johnson, which supports the university through its global Resilient Minds initiative focused on mental health promotion.
Other valued partners included KNUST Hospital, KNUST Wellness Centre, Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), Peace and Love Hospital, Gracecare, and the KO Club.
